Stiftung Warentest commends three child seats from Recaro Child Safety
A total of sixteen child seats were tested for the latest issue of the magazine “test” (11/2017 issue). The criteria safety, handling, ergonomics, and levels of hazardous materials were in the center of the tests. Three of the Recaro child seats examined especially impressed the test panel and earned good marks.
Two products in the 0+ group were tested: The Guardia, the current top model among Recaro infant carriers, was awarded the grade “good” (1.8). Weighing only 3.9 kilograms (8.6 lbs.), it is one of the lightest in its class. Maximum safety is assured, among other things, by its patented Hero belt system, which prevents belts from slipping or twisting. The experts at Recaro Child Safety also put great emphasis on ergonomics in the carrier’s design. For newborns, there is an additional inlay cushion that allows the child to be placed in a lying position, which is easier on the back. Comfort features also include generous sun visors and the mesh insert, which ensures optimal ventilation. Last but not least, the design of the infant carrier convinced the panel with its easy handling and comfort while being carried.
The infant carrier Privia Evo was also given a rating of “good” (1.8) and at only 3.9 kilograms (8.6 lbs.) is also a real lightweight. In addition to an integrated sun canopy, the Privia Evo offers proven Recaro comfort and safety features. Both infant carriers were tested in combination with the new SmartClick Isofix base, which makes it possible to quickly, easily and safely install the seat in the vehicle. Operating elements of contrasting color ensure intuitive handling; one glance at the safety indicator on the base shows whether installation has been completed correctly.
Furthermore, Stiftung Warentest also examined the world premiere Zero.1 Elite (i-Size) and awarded it the grade of “good” (2.5). With this rear-facing seat, Recaro Child Safety has introduced a world first that combines two products in one. The combination of infant carrier and child seat may already be used from birth up to a height of 105 centimeters. The 360° rotating function of the seat plays a central role: with only a single hand motion it can be rotated towards the vehicle door so that the child can be comfortably placed in the vehicle or removed from it with the infant carrier. Thus, the Zero.1 Elite, with the 2.9 kilogram (6.4 lbs.) carrier, combines all the advantages of an infant carrier with those of a full-fledged group 0+/I child seat.
The Stiftung Warentest panel was not convinced by the Recaro Optia. The results of the test had already been made public in July 2017. As a responsible company, Recaro Child Safety promptly decided to completely withdraw the product from the market and offer its customers a replacement product free of charge.
